Instabilità testuale e dialogo interculturale: riflessioni sulla traduzione della Gautreks saga

Within the theoretical framework which characterizes the interdisciplinary approach of Translation Studies, much attention has been devoted to the analysis of translators’ statements about their own works. In the case of a translation of a medieval text, the translator is necessarily faced with a set of problems linked with some major features of the production and transmission of texts in the European Middle Ages. This paper aims to offer some reflections about the translation of the Old Icelandic Gautreks saga into Italian: in particular, the translator will try to highlight the relationships between the adopted translation strategy and the different kinds of influence exerted both on the translation process and its final result by a variety of aspects of the target culture into which the translated text is intended to be received.

Nel quadro teorico dell’approccio interdisciplinare dei Translation Studies, notevole attenzione è stata rivolta all’analisi dei commenti dei traduttori sui propri lavori. Nel caso della traduzione di un testo medievale, il traduttore si trova a dover necessariamente affrontare una serie di problemi e questioni strettamente legati alle specificità della produzione e della trasmissione dei testi nel Medioevo europeo. L’obiettivo di questo articolo consiste nel proporre alcune riflessioni riguardanti la traduzione italiana della Gautreks saga antico islandese: in particolare, il traduttore intende mettere in evidenza i legami tra la strategia traduttiva adottata e i diversi tipi di influenza esercitati sia sul processo di traduzione sia sul risultato finale da un insieme di aspetti della cultura d’arrivo in cui il testo tradotto viene accolto.
