In this paper, the author explores the environmental labeling of pre-packaged food products and, in particular, the treatment of the notion of biodiversity in the information provided to consumers. After specifying the normative context in which the study is based, it analyzes, using a corpus of labels collected in France and Italy, the functioning in discourse of the terms “biodiversité/biodiversità” and “variété/varietà”. The study makes it possible to highlight the diverse representations of biodiversity in relation to production methods and consumption choices.

Abstract

In this paper, the author explores the environmental labeling of pre-packaged food products and, in particular, the treatment of the notion of biodiversity in the information provided to consumers. After specifying the normative context in which the study is based, it analyzes, using a corpus of labels collected in France and Italy, the functioning in discourse of the terms “biodiversité/biodiversità” and “variété/varietà”. The study makes it possible to highlight the diverse representations of biodiversity in relation to production methods and consumption choices.
