This article was published on the occasion of the relaunch of the Journal (2006), with a new Publisher (Taylor&Francis/Routledge). It illustrates the principles of the Journal’s Policy of excellence in English Studies, and discusses the philosophical issue of the interdisciplinary nature of the field in Europe and beyond, focussing on cutting edge developments, transdisciplinarity and cultural variety.
