The essay resumes and briefly exemplifies the spread of contemporary Genoese prose, which has experienced considerable growth in the last years despite the decreasing usage of the language in family and social environments. These writings feature newspaper and magazine articles – from both print and digital media outlets – as well as original and translated literary works. Also included is a subset of the entries published on the Ligurian version of Wikipedia which, with a few notable exceptions, are often characterised by a lower overall quality. This can be explained by the encyclopaedia’s lack of uniform editorial guidelines, and by the rudimentary language skills exhibited by a considerable fraction of its contributors. In spite of their different quality and nature, however, all these instances give evidence of the widespread concern regarding the future of the local language and, to some extent, are likely to contribute towards the standardization of spelling and prose writing models.
