L’Äsop di Heinrich Steinhöwel: un confronto con le Etliche Fabeln di Martin Luther

The present contribution analyzes the differences and analogies between the translation of Aesop’s fables by Heinrich Steinhöwel and the Etliche Fabeln by Martin Luther, considering also the relation of both texts with the Latin model, to which they refer. The purpose of the work is to demonstrate how Luther sometimes follows the translation choices by Steinhöwel, though openly criticizing the acceptability of the language and the content of his text. The work opens with the analysis of the theory and of the translation technique by Steinhöwel, highlighting points of convergence and divergence in relation to Luther’s solutions. Afterwards, a comparison within the text structure, the tale procedures and the most interesting lexical and syntactic choices is carried out.

Il presente contributo offre un’analisi delle differenze e analogie tra la traduzione delle favole esopiche ad opera di Heinrich Steinhöwel e le Etliche Fabeln di Martin Luther, considerando anche il rapporto di entrambi con il modello latino di riferimento. Ci si propone, inoltre, di dimostrare come Luther segua talvolta le scelte traduttive di Steinhöwel, pur criticando apertamente la plausibilità della sua lingua e il contenuto della sua traduzione. Il lavoro si apre con un esame della teoria e della tecnica traduttiva di Steinhöwel, osservandone i punti di contatto e di divergenza rispetto alle soluzioni luterane e prosegue con un confronto puntuale nell’ambito della struttura testuale, delle procedure di narrazione, delle più interessanti scelte lessicali e sintattiche.
