Rotating axisymmetric disks or cylinders can be found in a lot of mechanical applications. In the literature, it is possible to find models that enable the calculation of the stress and strain state of rotors made up of homogeneous materials; these models allow the designer to set the limit rotating speed values in order to avoid any structural damage. In the formulation of analytical models, various problems can arise when it is necessary to evaluate the stress and strain state in non-homogeneous rotating disks or cylinders in which the presence of different components, made of different structural materials and with various geometrical configurations, causes radial, axial and circumferential anisotropies in the mechanical behaviour of the components. The aim of this paper is to propose an analytical procedure, supported by means of finite element models, which is able to foresee the mechanical behaviour of non-homogeneous rotating disks or cylinders.
