Many obese children have pathological conditions that mostly regress after weight reduction. Interventions aimed at children who have not yet reached adolescence usually include nutrition/diet advice, physical training programmes and behavioural therapies, but rarely focus on parental responsibility. The authors describe their experiences in Northern Italy of using an outpatient multidisciplinary three-month intervention for childhood obesity that includes a high degree of parental involvement.

Abstract

Many obese children have pathological conditions that mostly regress after weight reduction. Interventions aimed at children who have not yet reached adolescence usually include nutrition/diet advice, physical training programmes and behavioural therapies, but rarely focus on parental responsibility. The authors describe their experiences in Northern Italy of using an outpatient multidisciplinary three-month intervention for childhood obesity that includes a high degree of parental involvement.
