The article provides an overview about Cloud computing; a technology which is rapidly growing and spreading into our lives and will have significant consequences in the future. This is also the case whith GIS technolgy, where a number of decisions still have to be made about which services can be provided to the users, in addition to online basemaps (vector and raster). Meanwhile, Esri has developed and is actively promoting ArcGIS Online.

Abstract
