The article will discuss the many implications of participation in a cross-media scenario where actions and behaviours of digital audiences are reshaping some key processes in journalism, politics and media industry. The context to understand the changes will be explained with the last research in these fields, where we will obtain the emerging topics in research about digital audiences and participation. The perspective of the authors in this article will be linked to some trends identified in many short essays written within the Cost Action Transforming Audiences Transforming Societies (TATS). This work conceptualises the emerging research as the reflection of some tensions and at the same time, it applies the idea of “tension” like the best metaphor to identify the pending challenges.

The perspective of the authors in this article will be linked to some trends identified in many short essays written within the Cost Action Transforming Audiences Transforming Societies (TATS).
