Vittore Branca was a protagonist of Italian culture of the late twentieth century: as philologist and literary historian, promoter and organizer of culture. Its unmistakable personality was formed in the thirties, when he was a student of the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa directed by Giovanni Gentile and, at the same time, national leader of the Italian Catholic Federation of University students inspired by the teachings of Giovan Battista Montini. Two very different worlds, of which he was able to harmonize the cultural and moral stimuli.
