Accessibilità e riuso di un'architettura fortificata: il Castello di Lombardia a Enna tra conoscenza e conservazione

The town of Enna, located in a naturally fortified site in the centre ofSicily, has always been strategically linked to the politica/ and militaryaffairs of the island. An imposing medieval fortress, .known as 'cast/e of lombardy; occupies the highest part of the rocky ridge on which it climbs. Although once its first nucleus,. the site is today detached [rom the urban environment The restoration works carried out in the past have made diflìcult the understanding of the historical evolution ofthe monument; which appears characterized bya great stratigraphic complexity: Starting [rom an in-deep archival analysis and [rom an accurate geometrie survey (never realized before) and diagnostics, this study intends to lay the foundations for its conservation and sustainable reconnection with the city. Founded on the criter'ia of accessibility's improvement and adaptive reuse, the new proposed functions integrate the architectural features and the fondscape perspectives that characterize this piace to establish a pervasive theatre, which will help the citadel to regain its centrai' role.
