In this Thesis, the localization analysis of the general class of elastic-fracturing materials is outlined. Then, the traditional scalar damage models, where the scalar variable affects all the components of the stiffness in the same way, is considered. The localization diagnosis is performed analytically and geometrically. The expression of the critical hardening modulus and critical localization directions are provided and evaluated for different loading cases.
