The essay examines the contribution of women's writings in the context of US WWI fiction, paying special attention to the "battle of memory" that until recently has privileged the male "testaments of disillusion". The essay highlights the diversity of women's texts but also their frequent participation in the rhetoric of war, against the long-standing stereotype of women as "naturally" peace-loving subjects and "beautiful souls".
