General information
The University of Bergamo has entered into transformative agreements with major international publishers through the national CARE-CRUI negotiation.
These agreements enable authors affiliated with the University to publish their work in Open Access under favorable conditions.
In addition to covering the costs of access to a publisher’s journals, the transformative agreements enable the exemption or reduction of Open Access publication
fees for authors.
Common Terms of the Agreements
Eligible Authors
Corresponding authors formally affiliated with the University at the time of article acceptance are eligible to benefit from these agreements, in particular:
- Tenured faculty members (full professors, associate professors, researchers);
- Contract faculty (fixed-term researchers);
- Research fellows and grant holders;
- Teaching assistants and language collaborators;
- PhD candidates and postgraduate trainee
The corresponding author must use his/her institutional email address ([email protected] or [email protected])
at the time of submission to avoid affiliation issues.
If there are multiple corresponding authors, the eligible author will be the internal author who submitted the article via the publisher’s platform.
It is recommended not to designate as corresponding author a person whose contract with UniBG is close to expiration:
if the contract has expired at the time the article is accepted, the right to the voucher covering the Article Processing Charge (APC) will be lost.
Eligible journals
The journals covered by each agreement vary depending on the publisher.
Please refer to the specific information in the section Ongoing agreements at Unibg.
Guidelines for the Use of Transformative Agreements
- Make sure the journal appears in the list provided by the specific publisher.
- The corresponding author, responsible for submitting the article via the publisher’s platform and managing all communications
during the publication process, must be affiliated with the University of Bergamo.
- Please consider the expected acceptance timeline: the corresponding author must be affiliated with the university when the article
is accepted.
- Check the publication model of the selected journal — whether Gold/Fully Open Access or Hybrid — as publishers may apply
varying conditions accordingly.
Journal Publishing Models
- Gold/Fully Open Access Journals
journals that publish exclusively Open Access articles, subject to the payment of an Article Processing Charge (APC).
- Hybrid Open Access Journals
journals where authors can choose to publish either Open Access by paying an APC, or via the standard subscription-based (closed access) model.
- Flipped Journals
journals that initially followed the Hybrid Open Access model but transitioned to the Gold/Fully Open Access model during the transformative agreement period.
