After an in-depth research in many European archives, the book opens up a forgotten page in the history of art: the international conference on proportion, held in 1951 at the Triennale. While many scholars and artists were struggling to find a new language, between the modernism/abstractism of the 30ies and the new pulsions emerged after the war (muralism, "art synthesis", the influence of Picasso etc), the focus on proportions connects this whole new tension with its ancient, classical roots. Anna Chiara Cimoli's contribution in the book analyses in particular the slow and complex developement of the exhibition accompanying the symposium, as well as the role Le Corbusier, Ackermann, Winkelmann, Rogers and others played in it.

Abstract
After an in-depth research in many European archives, the book opens up a forgotten page in the history of art: the international conference on proportion, held in 1951 at the Triennale. While many scholars and artists were struggling to find a new language, between the modernism/abstractism of the 30ies and the new pulsions emerged after the war (muralism, "art synthesis", the influence of Picasso etc), the focus on proportions connects this whole new tension with its ancient, classical roots. Anna Chiara Cimoli's contribution in the book analyses in particular the slow and complex developement of the exhibition accompanying the symposium, as well as the role Le Corbusier, Ackermann, Winkelmann, Rogers and others played in it.File | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
