Numeri primi. Strategie della brevità nel Novecento italiano

In contemporary times, the short story form plays an ancillary role to the novel genre in the literary canon and publishing system, despite the fact that the short story constitutes a founding tradition of Italian literature and has been able to express, throughout the twentieth century and in the early part of the 2000s works of extraordinary value. In an effort to restore a renewed centrality to one of the noblest sides of our literature, the papers in this volume - which come from the initiatives of SINAB, International Short Fiction Seminar - investigate the works of some twentieth-century authors (Svevo, Banti, Ginzburg, Ortese, Calvino, Flaiano), defining a wide repertoire of readings, ideas and theories that allow to foster a scientifically timely discussion around the status of brevity, in the broad spectrum of its possible declinations.

In epoca contemporanea la forma racconto ricopre un ruolo ancillare rispetto al genere del romanzo nel canone letterario e nel sistema editoriale, nonostante la narrazione breve costituisca una tradizione fondante della letteratura italiana e abbia saputo esprimere, per tutto il Novecento e nel primo scorcio degli anni Duemila, opere di straordinario valore. Nell’intento di restituire una rinnovata centralità a uno dei versanti più nobili della nostra letteratura, gli interventi di questo volume – che provengono dalle iniziative del SINAB, Seminario Internazionale di Narrativa Breve – indagano le opere di alcune autrici e autori del Novecento (Svevo, Banti, Ginzburg, Ortese, Calvino, Flaiano), definendo un ampio repertorio di letture, idee e teorie che permettono di favorire una discussione scientificamente puntuale intorno allo statuto della brevità, nell’ampio spettro delle sue declinazioni possibili.
