The volume, one of the first in local publications, integrates the socio-historical description with the environmental description and contemporary natural and landscape features, providing an overall synthesis that illustrates the construction of the territory and its community. The first part frames the Cusio territory geographically and illustrates its features, resources and geological aspects. It also outlines the various stages in the formation of the local landscape and describes the historical centre and traditional buildings, with particular attention to the material component and minimal landscapes. The second part reconstructs the stages of Cusio's history, with particular attention to the effects on the local reality and its processes of territorial reification and social structuring. Ample space is reserved for the singular adventure of the pastures of Monte Avaro, which have always been a primary source of income. The religious history of the village is then summarised, in its relations with local and neighbouring administrations. The third part describes the open spaces (meadows, pastures and woods) and their main floristic, vegetational and faunistic values, integrating them with the floristic list of the species recorded in the described environments of the Cusio territory and with the systematic list of species of amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. The volume ends with an iconographic appendix dedicated to the evolution of the face of Cusio and its people during the 20th century.
