This work introduces the first dependency-annotated resource for Old Italian, developed on the Divina Commedia within the Universal Dependencies framework, namely the Italian Old treebank. In addition to the description of the resource, this study presents an approach to the treatment of ellipsis in the context of NLP, specifically adapted to the Universal Dependencies guidelines. A data-driven analysis follows, focusing on predicate ellipsis and object omission in the Divina Commedia, through the systematic extraction and examination of data from Italian Old treebank. The results provide empirical evidence that is relevant both for a categorization of these two types of ellipsis in the Commedia and for more general computational applications related to the phenomenon of ellipsis.
