In recent years, new technologies increasingly characterize visual communication. However, are they really an asset to the understanding of architectural space or can become ‘deafening’ data providers, less and less attentive to the meaning of the information provided? This paper aims to investigate this theme, focusing on the experience conducted on the Tower of Federico, the most important monument of the city of Enna in Sicily. The careful studies carried out on this imposing architecture, aimed at both improving its knowledge and establishing guidelines for its conservation, led to the creation of a wide database. An instrument that could also play a key role in the process of its active valorization and in raising public awareness, as critical support for activities based on spatial augmented reality and on the enhancement of visual perception.

Abstract
