Are the semantics of “freedom”, “goodness”, “power” and “belonging” characteristic of the stories narrated in psychotherapy by individuals respectively with phobic, obsessive-compulsive, eating, and mood disorders? To verify this hypothesis, put forward by Ugazio’s model of semantic polarities, the Family Semantics Grid (FSG) was applied to the transcripts of 120 individual video-recorded systemic therapy sessions, the first two sessions carried out with 60 patients with phobic (12), obsessive-compulsive(12), eating (12), and mood (12) disorders and asymptomatic patients (12) with existential problems who made up the comparison group. The results confirm the hypothesis. All but one patient were correctly assigned to their diagnostic group only by drawing on their narrated semantics. The semantics alone therefore seem capable of defining the correct diagnostic group to which each patient belongs. We suggest considering the semantics as contextual and cultural diagnostic dimensions, expressions of the bonds but also of the resources of people, and above all useful for a diagnosis aimed at fostering processes of transformation and change.
Le semantiche della “libertà”, della “bontà”, del “potere” e dell’“appartenenza” caratterizzano la storia raccontata in terapia dalle persone rispettivamente con disturbi fobici, ossessivo-compulsivi, alimentari e depressivi? Per verificare questa ipotesi, suggerita dal modello delle polarità semantiche di Ugazio (1998, 2013), è stata applicata la Family Semantics Grid (FSG) (Ugazio, Negri, Fellin, Di Pasquale, 2009) alle trascrizioni delle videoregistrazioni di 120 sedute individuali di terapia sistemica, le prime due di 60 pazienti: 12 con disturbi fobici, 12 con disturbi ossessivo-compulsivi, 12 con disturbi alimentari, 12 con disturbi dell’umore e 12 asintomatici con problematiche esistenziali che formano il gruppo di confronto. I risultati confermano l’ipotesi. Tutti i pazienti, ad eccezione di uno, sono stati assegnati correttamente al loro gruppo diagnostico grazie all’individuazione delle loro semantiche narrate. Le semantiche sembrano quindi in grado, da sole, di definire l’appartenenza del paziente al corretto gruppo diagnostico. Questi risultati suggeriscono che le semantiche siano dimensioni diagnostiche contestuali e culturali, espressione dei vincoli ma anche delle risorse delle persone, e soprattutto utili per una diagnosi finalizzata ai processi di trasformazione e cambiamento.
