This paper highlights the different distribution of counter-argumentative markers (CAM) in a monolingual comparable corpus made up of decisions issued in Spanish by the Spanish Supreme Court (SSC) and by the European Court of Justice (ECJ). The suggested analysis intends to prove that the need for translatability and the peculiar decisionmaking process within the ECJ account for the trend towards simplification and normalisation in the Spanish judicial eurolect.
