Domenico Schiappoli (1870-1945) was a prominent scholar of Ecclesiastical law in Italy; he played an outstanding role in the renewal of the discipline during the late 19th Century and early 20th. In his late age, he also took interest in Church and State relations, supporting theories, which marked a strong difference of perspective between his own understanding of the issue and the mainstream theories about the legal configuration of agreements between Church and State (“concordati”).
