The contribution aims to outline the role of the photographic medium within the Surrealist experience, starting from the first theoretical elaborations proposed by André Breton and Man Ray. From street photography, of Atgetian derivation, to the photographic manipulation of the body experimented in magazines such as Documents and Minotaure, the revolutionary rethinking of the medium beyond its documentary role will be highlighted.
