Market Surveillance Authorities (MSAs) and market actors face difficulties establishing and verifying compliance of large industrial products. The traditional approaches used to select mass-produced products for Ecodesign conformity verification purposes are of limited applicability for power transformers which are subject to energy performance requirements under the Ecodesign Directive. This paper describes INTAS experiences on identification, selection and evaluation of power transformers for MSA purposes. More in detail this paper analyzes the existing testing avenues, test standards, procedures and methods already in place, examines testing options for Market Surveillance conformity verification and identifies criticalities and most promising options. INTAS project is funded by the European Union Horizon 2020 programme (EU H2020) to provide technical and cooperative support, as well as capacity building to MSAs targeting transformers.
