The National Edition of Giambattista della Forta's works makes known to us a printed tradition exceptionally copious. Nowadays, we are able to study that tradition on the basis of methods developed by textual bibliography; analysis and interpretation of data concerning della Porta's editions can increase the knowledge of geopolitical contexts in which they were printed. The dynamics of reception appropriates della Porta''s texts and transforms them; at the same time, several images of magia naturalis emerge from the frontispices of his printed works. In this essay della Porta is taken as a probe for exploring a cultural system of knowledge.
