My contribution focuses on the graphic project Robert Hooke (1635-1703) developed for the Royal Society in the mid-1660s, which resulted in his celebrated Micrographia published at London in 1665. Hooke aimed at describing and representing the microscopic world as an ordered world, depicted as the exquisite handiwork of provident God, and governed by geometrical and mechanical rules. Partly, his effort was directed to respond to criticism levelled at the Royal Society scientific and institutional aspirations.

Abstract
My contribution focuses on the graphic project Robert Hooke (1635-1703) developed for the Royal Society in the mid-1660s, which resulted in his celebrated Micrographia published at London in 1665. Hooke aimed at describing and representing the microscopic world as an ordered world, depicted as the exquisite handiwork of provident God, and governed by geometrical and mechanical rules. Partly, his effort was directed to respond to criticism levelled at the Royal Society scientific and institutional aspirations.File | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
