The contribution investigates the history and the art of calligraphy, especially focusing on the meaning and the creative evolution of the calligraphic art in the Arab and Islamic countries where calligraphy is considered the main expression of the arts. Taking into account the concept of ornament such as proposed by Oleg Grabar the debate is around the movement of the calligraphy that creates in itself and opens the doors to the imagination and around the importance of calligraphy as a work of art and beauty able to forge lives and thoughts within the societies.
