L’antifascismo e la caduta del regime: memorialistica politica e storiografia di transizione

The Fascist regime was overthrown by the coup of 25 July 1943, but without a direct embroilment of the anti-Fascist oppositions. Their political insignificance, at the first stage of the post-Fascist transition, raised a historical debate which involved both the memoires of political leaders (initially excluded by the successor royal government) and some prominent Italian historians just as sided with the anti-Fascist field. The essay deals with the different analysis, reflexions and interpretations developed from these voices with respect to the fall of Fascism but also, at the same time, to the debacle of the Monarchy, which concluded the institutional transition in 1946.
