The paper aims at analyzing three fragments by Simonides concerning thev myth of Theseus and argues that they originally belonged to the same work. The fragments suggest that Simonides was the first to connect the Cretan expedition with the Amazon’s abduction and to emphasize some ideological aspects of the hero, that played an important role in the development of this figure in the Athenian context.
