The article analyses the transformations of the documentary graphic forms in the western Alps region in the 12th and 13th centuries, with particular reference to the Aosta Valley and the neighboring territories. These transformations are related on the one hand to the evolution of the documentary and graphic cultures of the area, on the other to the development of the institutions that controlled the production of authentic documents.
