The goal of this paper is analyzing, in the context of manufacturing relocation decisions, how the potential job losses that are suffered by the left host country are affected by firm-, industry-, and country-specific factors. The analyses are based on a dataset including 589 relocations within EU, built by merging data from European Restructuring Monitor, World Bank, OECD and the Heritage Foundation. Preliminary results show the relevance of factors related to workforce, labor market, and technology. In this way, we aim to suggest policies that can help retaining the present firms and attracting new investments, thus minimizing job losses.

Abstract
The goal of this paper is analyzing, in the context of manufacturing relocation decisions, how the potential job losses that are suffered by the left host country are affected by firm-, industry-, and country-specific factors. The analyses are based on a dataset including 589 relocations within EU, built by merging data from European Restructuring Monitor, World Bank, OECD and the Heritage Foundation. Preliminary results show the relevance of factors related to workforce, labor market, and technology. In this way, we aim to suggest policies that can help retaining the present firms and attracting new investments, thus minimizing job losses.File | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
