This paper is concerned with applying some important results in prosody research tothe teaching of German as a foreign language. Drawing on UHMANN’s (1991) studyon the regularities of focus accent positioning and PETERS ’(2009) compositional into-national model, the present article provides advanced learners with a method for theanalysis of focus accent position and intonational contours in authentic spoken data.This method is aimed at diminishing students’ «prosodic deafness» and at increasingprosodic awareness, which can lead to an improvement in their prosodic competence in German
