Jacques bainville (1879-1936) was one of the most brilliant French historians of the first half of the twentieth century. disciple and friend of charles Maurras, bainville was member of the action Française since its foundation and became one of its main analysts and commentators of international politics. as a historian, he constantly reflected upon the long-term relations between France and Germany both on a political and cultural perspective. With such background, in 1920 he published the book Les Conséquences Politiques de la Paix, one of the most acute analysis of the Peace of versailles (even in its total one-sidedness), writing pages that seemed prophetic in foreseeing its fragility and in identifying the insurmountable tensions of the new european order.
