Based on a collection of testimonies and media analysis, our article broaches the theme of social practices for the construction of the memory of the past between communal-historical memory and the political use and abuse of the past. Starting from the ethnographic observation of a particular case, that of a fascist commemoration in the north of Italy on one of the sites of the civil ware and the Italian Resistance (1943-45), the article attempts to trace the cultural characteristics of this commemorative ritual in relation to the collective memory of fascism and the Resistance in Italy. It focuses particularly on the symbolic violence inscribed in these practices and on political mythology as a symbolic resource for the construction of social conflict within memory and the present.
