Expérimentations notariales et modèles textuels dans la documentation de Philippe de Savoie-Achaïe (1295-1334)

The essay analyzes the diplomatic aspect, the textual structure and vocabulary of the documents written in the principality of Savoy-Achaea (Piedmont) during the age of Philip (1295-1344), focusing especially on those concerning exemptions and feudal investitures. Starting from around 1320 these two categories of documents followed standardized textual patterns, purposefully developed and used to ground the institutional actions of the prince towards local powers (communities and vassals) within a coherent framework of legitimacy. While the 13th century documents formally put the prince and his local interlocutors on an equal footing, the documentary models created for Philip insist on his role as institutional summit of the State and describe his actions as generous responses to petitions addressed by subjects.
