The book by Alex Krieger "City on a Hill. Urban Idealism in America from the Puritans to the Present" (2019) provides a history of urbanism in the United States, read through the concept of utopia. Starting from the conquest of the frontier and the territorial planning and management developed by Thomas Jefferson and his radical opposition to the city, the author proposes a reading of the different settlement patterns of America. The research arrives up to the recent ways of regeneration of consolidated centers inspired by the concept of smart-city and its different declinations.
