The Italian norms on the subject of infant protection are too complicated and at the same time too ambiguous in their definition of what is violence and pornography in the media. This is an alarming situation because it poses the problem of how the law can monitor and limit effectively the communication of sensitive material to children. The purpose of this study is that of analyzing the definitions of violence and pornography in different legislative systems and to compare them with the Italian ones in the attempt to come closer to a working definition- that will balance the concern for the psychological health of children with the defence of freedom of expression and the right to information.
