The paper describes a method to specify and evaluate software quality requirements. The requirements are classified according to the ISO 9126 quality model and are related to the context through the concept of scenario. The relevance of each quality attribute is defined using a “quality matrix”. The matrix associates the required quality scores to the components of the software product. The aim is to manage the risk and to focus the evaluation effort on the relevant components. The matrix acts as a framework to exploit every available measure (quantitative or qualitative, static or execution based). It is discussed in detail a project (from a number of projects that experienced the method).

Abstract

The paper describes a method to specify and evaluate software quality requirements. The requirements are classified according to the ISO 9126 quality model and are related to the context through the concept of scenario. The relevance of each quality attribute is defined using a “quality matrix”. The matrix associates the required quality scores to the components of the software product. The aim is to manage the risk and to focus the evaluation effort on the relevant components. The matrix acts as a framework to exploit every available measure (quantitative or qualitative, static or execution based). It is discussed in detail a project (from a number of projects that experienced the method).
