Phase composition, microstructure and electrical conduction of composites, prepared by mixing La0.83Sr0.17Ga0.83Mg0.17O2.83 (LSGM) and La0.8Sr0.2MnO3 (LSM) powders, (1-x)LSGM-xLSM (0 £ x £ 1) and sintering at 1300°C, were studied. Relative densities of the samples vary in the range 85-89% and are consistent with previous literature reports. The phase composition and the microstructure were investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy techniques after thermal treatments at temperatures suitable for IT-SOFCs. Electrical characterisation was carried out by the complex impedance spectroscopy technique in air and in the temperature range 300 – 800 °C. The total conductivity is about 2.10-2 S cm-1 at 800°C for samples with 1 % and 5 % LSM; such low conductivity may account for the low relative densities and the small grain size of the samples. Present results were compared with those obtained by electrical measurments and EDX analysis on LSGM thick films sandwiched between LSM electrodes. In both experiments there is not any evidence of the formation of new phases.
