The author examines the historical development of Slovenia’s local administration law. This analysis is divided in the following phases: the period of Hapsburg domination, the pre-socialist period of independent Yugoslavia and the period of the so-called Second Yugoslavia, or communist Yugoslavia. The author then moves on to analyse the constitutional and legislative framework regarding sub-national territorial authorities in post-socialist Slovenia. Finally, the author addresses the new perspectives introduced by the 2006 constitutional reform.
