Nei 150 anni della legge delle Guarentigie = On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Law of Guarantees

On 13th May 1871 the Italian Parliament, then sitting in Florence, passed the so-called Law of Guarantees (No 214/1871), on the prerogatives accorded to the Pontiff and the Holy See, and the relations between Church and State. The Law of Guarantees became one of the most characteristic features of the Italian legal system, until the Concordat repealed it in 1929. On its 150th anniversary, the essay looks at some of the main traits of the law, drawing attention to its relevance for the early developments of the new Italian «diritto ecclesiastico».
