Silence and speech respond to strict relational and communication rules in all societies of the world. Black Africa is one of the largest cultural areas where speech and oral oratory respond to a highly sophisticated communication model. Several symbolic meanings are attributable to different social behaviours, in terms of speech use or abuse, silence, linguistic taboos and proverbs, all contributing in sharing common values and social cohesion.
