The stability of slender r. c. units is usually controlled through the verification of an ultimate strength limit, defined relative to loads applied increasingly in a monotone manner. As the live loads are added to the dead loads, it seems necessary to carry out an analysis accounting for the effects connected to the variability of these loads. This variability can in fact jeopardize the stability of a slender element even for lower loads than the ultimate strength limit. The paper offers a series of hypotheses necessary for a correct numerical approach and compares experimental results to the above numerical approach, confirming its validity and the description of the physical reality of the problem.

Abstract
The stability of slender r. c. units is usually controlled through the verification of an ultimate strength limit, defined relative to loads applied increasingly in a monotone manner. As the live loads are added to the dead loads, it seems necessary to carry out an analysis accounting for the effects connected to the variability of these loads. This variability can in fact jeopardize the stability of a slender element even for lower loads than the ultimate strength limit. The paper offers a series of hypotheses necessary for a correct numerical approach and compares experimental results to the above numerical approach, confirming its validity and the description of the physical reality of the problem.File | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
