Abstract concepts categories in neurodegenerative patients: insights from a lexical decision task

The organization of concrete and abstract conceptual knowledge is still debated. It has been proposed to reflect different dimensions and to be grounded in the brain regions coding for the corresponding experience [1]. Neurodegenerative diseases involving different neural substrates may offer important insights into this debate, as they may show selective impairments of specific kinds of concepts. Here, we report data from a priming paradigm using different kinds of concrete and abstract concepts administered to patients affected by Alzheimer’s Disease (AD), Cortico-Basal Degeneration Syndrome (CBS), Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA) and semantic variant of Primary Progressive Aphasia (svPPA).
