Abstract
The essay shows the philological, exegetical, and speculative reasons that led Aquila to use the unusual syntagm σὺν τὸν οὐρανὸν σὺν τὴν γῆν in his translation of the Hebrew ת ה א ם ו שםי ת ה א ארץ) Gn I, 1). The insightful and decisive contribution of John Philoponus’ De opificio mundi will be emphasised. Not only does Philoponus not consider this translation to be a syntactic monstrum (as, for instance, Hieronymus does ) but he grasps its philosophical depth about the contemporaneity of the creation of heaven and earth on ‹day one› of the Hexaemeron.File | Dimensione del file | Formato | |
