Dionysius the Pseudo-Areopagite in John Philoponus’ De opificio mundi : on a particular case of reuse of the corpus Dionysiacum in hexameronal context · The essay takes into account the influence of Pseudo-Dionysius the Areopagite on John Philoponus’ De opificio mundi (mid-6th century). This hexameron is among the most ancient testimonials of the corpus Dionysiacum and shows a singular use of Dionysius : on the real happening of the prodigious eclipse at the time of Jesus’ crucifixion, the Areopagite appears above all as an authoritative source in the astronomical field, together with Phlegon of Tralles, rather than for his characteristic apophatism and his hierarchical ousiology.
