This paper investigates the discursive construction of sexual desire and, specifically, the role played by the key n-grams of a corpus of self-published homosexual erotica on the Internet. In corpus linguistics, lexical bundles have been studied as phraseological elements characteristic of certain registers, whether colloquial or specialized, but very few studies have addressed their cognitive relevance in the construction of the narrative plot. The methodology of analysis adopted follows the framework of Corpus-Assisted Discourse Studies (CADS) related to gender identities and sexuality. Triangulating the quantitative data collected from the narratives with the Schema Theory and some basic postulates of psychoanalysis (specifically, the notions of phantasm and universal narrative sequence), the aim is to demonstrate how key lexical bundles activate simple, repetitive scripts that perpetuate a symbolism of patriarchal dominance and a traditional power relationship between genders
