Palandri questions the status of literary characters and our condition as spectators-readers of the lives of others; crosses the metamorphosis of the narrative instance in modernism, leading us among the great classics of the twentieth century, always holding hands, showing us how the great questions that cross contemporary culture and history do not differ from the questions that everyone asks themselves in the most ordinary circumstances; takes us to the heart of the formal choices of the great storytellers (Italo Svevo, Marcel Proust, Virgina Woolf, James Joyce, Franz Kafka), presenting them not as technical devices, but as attempts to offer a representation as close as possible to a common feeling that writers they take care of translating for us.

Palandri si interroga sullo statuto dei personaggi letterari e sulla nostra condizione di spettatori-lettori delle vite altrui; attraversa le metamorfosi dell’istanza narrativa nel modernismo, conducendoci tra i grandi classici del Novecento, sempre tenendoci per mano, mostrandoci come le grandi questioni che attraversano la cultura e la storia contemporanea non differiscano dalle domande che ciascuno si pone nelle circostanze più ordinarie; ci porta nel cuore delle scelte formali dei grandi narratori (Italo Svevo, Marcel Proust, Virgina Woolf, James Joyce, Franz Kafka), presentandole non come espedienti tecnici, ma come tentativi di offrire una rappresentazione più vicina possibile a un comune sentire che gli scrittori si incaricano di tradurre per noi.
