There are professional critics, journalists who read at night to meet tight deadlines, brilliant scholars who make it a second job, good second-hand reviewers who follow their own tastes, taking all the time necessary to leave reading impressions deposited before making them one's own and reporting them on the pages of a newspaper or a blog. The great, happy news of the years in which critical writing found new spaces in many excellent online cultural journals, edited with effort and self-sacrifice, without funding, with the hard daily work of largely young scholars who work on it with seriousness and competence, is that the channels through which it is possible to approach first-time authors or books published by small publishing houses without a great force of impact on the publishing market have multiplied and have allowed the birth of a new democracy of reading, enhancing texts that are very they could hardly find space through the traditional mechanisms to which editorial promotion relies.
Ci sono i critici di professione, i giornalisti che leggono di notte per rispettare i tempi stretti di consegna, gli studiosi brillanti che ne fanno un secondo mestiere, i bravi recensori d’occasione, che seguono i propri gusti, prendendosi tutto il tempo necessario per lasciar depositare le impressioni di lettura prima di farle diventare cosa propria e darne conto sulle pagine di un quotidiano o di un blog. La grande novità, felice, degli anni in cui la scrittura critica ha trovato nuovi spazi in tante ottime riviste culturali online, curate con fatica e abnegazione, senza finanziamenti, con un duro lavoro quotidiano di studiosi in larga parte giovani che ci lavorano con serietà e competenza, è che i canali attraverso cui è possibile avvicinarsi agli autori esordienti o a libri pubblicati da piccole case editrici senza una grande forza d’impatto sul mercato editoriale si sono moltiplicati e hanno permesso la nascita di una nuova democrazia della lettura, valorizzando testi che molto difficilmente potrebbero trovare spazio attraverso i meccanismi tradizionali a cui si affida la promozione editoriale.
