The paper offers a rereading of two texts by the Polish author Janusz Korczak, dedicated to early childhood education, aimed at showing the presence of elements of continuity with the contemporary tradition of child-centred pedagogy but, at the same time, the newness introduced by Korczak, such the identification of the new-born as a real subject, bearer of rights and protagonist of a process of self-education from the very first day of life.
